Print This Page Russia bans fishery imports from Finland, lifts poultry ban
RUSSIA - Russia's Agriculture Ministry announced that it had placed a ban on fishery imports from Finland. The ministry's press service said that the ban is placed on all fish from the water area of the Aland Islands following the emergence and spread of haemorrhagic septicemia in fish.
The ban was placed on all fish that has not undergone thermal processing as well as on all equipment used for cultivation and catching of fish, Interfax agency reported. The press service also said that the Agriculture Oversight Service will increase control over the quality of fish caught in the Baltic Sea and the Bay of Finland.
At the same time the veterinary services lifted a ban on Finnish poultry. The ban was introduced in July 2004 after discovery of Newcastle disease in the western provinces of Finland.
