Print This Page Safeguards on salmon threatens EU business
EU - The Norwegian processor Pan Fish may, as a result of the EU salmon safeguard measures, move their salmon filet production from daughter companies in Denmark and France back to Norway, according to the Norwegian news source Nationen reports. The report suggests that the move would provide more work for the modern processing factory on Heroy island, that has a lot of spare capacity at present.
“This has to do with the minimum prices that the EU has imposed on Norwegian salmon which makes it more favourable to send ready cut filets out of Norway than whole fish. It may be more profitable to have the filleting done in Norway. We are considering it now but nothing is decided,” Lars Christian Blasternes, the assistant finance director of Pan Fish is quoted as saying.
The latest state of play in the trade war between the EU and Norway will be discussed at the UK's premier aquaculture event, Aquaculture Today 2005.
