Mexico to Ban Shrimp Fishing
According to Analia Murias of fis, the Federal Commission of Regulatory Improvement and the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fishery and Foods (SAGARPA) will be informed of the proposed date, which will also be published in the Official Federal Newspaper.
The general director of Fisheries and Aquaculture Ordinance Department, Martin Botello Ruvalcaba, says that the studies carried out by the National Fisheries Institute (INP) point to the viability of the ban date in safeguarding shrimp breeding.
"We have the date of 23 March as ideal for the start of the fisheries ban in high seas, estuaries and bays. We have already informed fisheries leaders so that they can begin preparing their vessels,” the official said.
"In the following days, the date proposal will be sent to COFEMER, SAGARPA and the Official Federal Newspaper to be published in advance, thus establishing the ban for 23 March,” he added.
