First Commercial Cobia Project in Brazil
The project's facilities cover a 169-hectare high seas surface area within the continental platform of the Pernambuco State located some 11 km off the coast of Boa Viagem beach of the city of Recife.
The owner of the Aqualider company, Manoel Tavares, says that what gives life to this project is that they believe that sustainable aquaculture depends on suitability of the location, whilst having little environmental impact. They say they will assure that the crystal clear waters where they plan their operations will preserve animal health.
The Executive commented that this year they installed four cages with a biomass of 40 thousand juveniles in three different egg masses. This year hopes to produce between 120 to 250 of cobia. However, their expectations have now exceeded this number.
