Port Lincoln Aquaculture at Threat to Iron Ore

AUSTRALIA - The Australian Southern Bluefin Tuna Industry Association says the South Australian Government needs to consider the possibility of job losses if a proposal to export iron ore from Port Lincoln is approved.

According to ABC News, the association's president, Brian Jeffries, says aquaculture generates more than 2,000 jobs around Port Lincoln, while Centrex Metals estimates its proposal would create eight to 10 new jobs.

Mr Jeffries says jobs might be at risk if the local seafood industry loses its "clean, green" image.

"A significant number of the aquaculture jobs would be under threat, I think that's potentially acknowledged by everybody," he told ABC News.
