Firm Spends $14 Million on Chilean Salmon Farms
The company informed the Environmental Impact Evaluation System (SEIA) that the Brazo de Guardramiro farming centre will operate on 48 hectares with at-sea facilities only, writes Analia Murias. The venture is set to cost Acuimag $4 million, reports the International Collective in Support of Fishworkers.
Acuimag will invest another USD 6 million in the Brazo de Hojeda centre, spanning 111.5 hectares; and USD 4 million in the Peninsula Vicuna Mackenna, which will operate on a 42-hectare area. The total maximum output of the three facilities is expected to total 37,000 annual tonnes.
The centres will feature a detection system of fish feed losses, through underwater cameras and computational feeding systems.
"The effort will respond to the company’s clear conviction that the best way to expand is to increase the operational efficiency of our centres while taking care of the quality of water and its surroundings," a company source said.
