Print This Page Shetland Mussel Farmers Benefit from Grant
EU - Further details of the GBP 2.9 million (USD 4.2 million) European Fisheries Fund (EFF) grant benefiting Scotland will be disclosed at the European Seafood Exposition (ESE) in Brussels today by Scottish fisheries minister Richard Lochhead and environment minister Roseanna Cunningham.
According to the news organisation FIS, almost half of the grant total will go to businesses in the Shetlands, with the mussel farming industry benefiting the most.
Managing director of Blueshell Mussels, Michael Laurenson, said his mussel farming and processing enterprise will receive almost GBP 470,000 (USD 684,500), which will help his business grow by up to 50 per cent over the next five years, reports FIS.
The company already harvests around 950 tonnes of mussels annually and maintains a processing plant at Brae and at 12 different growing sites.
