Crack Down on Illegal Arabian Fish Farm

The successful discovery and closure of the farm follows a series of operations launched by the municipality to crack down on illegal fish farming in the area, writes Zainy Abbas of ArabNews. According to the news organisation, two weeks ago municipal inspectors seized large quantities of a chemical feed that make fish grow faster and buried ponds used to grow fish.

Authorities also found that illegal workers were manning the farms and that sewage water was being used to fill the ponds. Municipal officials were assisted by Makkah police in the crackdowns.

Police surrounded the farm but only arrested two men, as the rest fled into nearby mountains after being tipped off about the raid, says ArabNews.
