World Bank Loans US$2 Billion to Mekong Delta
According to Viet Nam's deputy minister of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Diep Kinh Tan, the project aims to modernise the agriculture and aquaculture industry of the area, upgrade infrastructure and train new workers. It will also provide loans with low interest rates to farmers.
The World Bank gives special attention to programmes that improve the living standards of poor people all over the world. It appreciates the poverty eradication programme that Vietnam has implemented for years and understands the serious effect of climate change to agricultural production regions like the Mekong Delta., says Diep Kinh Ta
The Mekong Delta region plays an important role in Viet Nam's agricultural industry. It contributes to 50 per cent of the country’s rice, 70 per cent of fruits, 90 per cent of rice exports and nearly 70 per cent of aquatic produce exports.
