Test, test, 1, 2, 3 ??? Just checking. I'm new to the forum and still working out how to use it. Anyway, for purposes of an introduction, I'm a fish health research assistant at Oregon State University in the Center for Fish Disease Research. I work on salmonid diseases and primarily the myxozoan parasites such as Myxobolus cerebralis, Parvicapsula minibicornis and Ceratomyxa shasta. I'm always interested in hearing what others are doing even if it doesn't have anything to do with fish diseases. I keep hobbie fish as well and really enjoy keeping native fish when possible. If you work with some cool fish, let me know.

Hi there Richard!
I'm new here too. Manager in a Barra farm, Malaysia. I'm curious about Myxobolus cerebralis. Can it infect other species other than salmonids? Or does it need cool temperate climate |

Here is a trout disease puzzle for you ..... we have Kamloops fry , 1 and 1/4 " long . They hatched and went through swim up extremely rapidly . Very active strong feeders with the exception of perhaps 5% which exibited potential signs of gas bubble disease , specifically a "bubble" that appeared on their abdomen couple with erratic behavior . These died over a period of a week or so . Meanwhile growth of the rest was very good . We experienced a turbidity event 10 days ago , lasting 48 hours and despite our sand filter the fry received a fair shot . 6 days ago we began to take mortality which has increased exponentially starting at a couple dozen and increasing to several thousand last evening ..... Meanwhile the fish continue to feed normally . There are no external symptoms visible with the exception of some of them being black from around 1/4 " in front of their tail back . We have been administering salt . Water temps are 53* and Do 9.7 . Most of the dead are smaller fish . Any help or thoughts would be appreciated . Eddie G .

Well setting up your aquarium with substrate heating cables is a good way to tip the odds in your aquarium. The health issue is should be concern prior before owing the fish tank and being fish lover. If you care well of your fishes the disease will rare for it. When a fish becomes ill, you should have better cure for the right illness.
