Editorial: Is the Seal Slaughter Fact or Fiction?
This week Scottish Salmon farmers came under attack from a furious action group accusing them of being involved in a campaign to slaughter seals as a means of preventing equipment damage. 124 MPs were reported to have signed a petition to stop the slaughter, but salmon farmers across the country deny that any such slaughter campaign exists.
Meanwhile, the export value of Norwegian seafood was revealed to be up 15 per cent in the first quarter of this year, by comparison with the first quarter of last year. This is the largest increase ever to have taken place for Norway. The bad news though is that a new disease has been discovered with the potential to cause a new threat to farmed Atlantic salmon in Norwegian waters. Adam Anson
