Editorial: Marine Harvest Take Measures to Finance Chilean Operations
Marine Harvest began taking measures to resolve the Chilean crisis this week. After monumental losses last year, Åse Aulie Michelet -- chief executive officer of Marine Harvest -- responded positively to the first quarter results, saying that both demand and prices have developed favourably so far in 2009.
A day later the company announced that it intended to carry out a private placement of new shares to raise approximately NOK 300 million. Almost immediately after the announcement the company completed the pre-sale of a private placement of 96,000,000 shares at a subscription price of NOK 3.15 per share.
"The purpose of the private placement is to finance the restructuring of the Company's operations in Chile, improve the financial position of the Company in general and facilitate an agreement with the Company's lenders to adjust the covenant structure in the company's loan agreements for the second, third and fourth quarter of 2009," said a Marine Harvest press release.
The company then published yet another press release, proposing new board members to be elected on 27 May. Whilst Marine Harvest may be struggling in Chile, they are certainly using up a lot of energy to keep their heads above the water.
