Welcome to this week's newsletter
Editorial: Uniting in the Name of Fish
This week, the UK and France joined the growing list of nations in support of an international trade ban for the endangered Atlantic and Mediterranean bluefin tuna. World Wildlife Fund Marine Programme Manager, Sally Bailey, said that unless we take immediate action, the breeding population will disappear by 2012.
WWF were in the news again a day later for their work with GLOBALCAP. Now the team will offer an expansion to their programme, allowing aquaculture producers to be certified in one step for practices that ensure the production of safe food in conjunction with environmentally and socially responsible farming.
The Marine Stewardship Council has announced the first outcome of their partner support marketing programme – the introduction of an evolved and improved MSC ecolabel. Saatchi & Saatchi worked with the MSC to carry out consumer research and partner feedback which indicated modifications needed to make the existing logo work harder and add more meaning.
Other news saw DIOBAS claim a cod-rearing breakthrough as their 16 year Freshwater Research Programme came to an end. According to DIOBAS, the new initiative allows them to rear cod in a controlled freshwater environment at any location in the world.
