Seafood Imports From China Raised In Untreated Sewage
WASHINGTON – Fish products consumed by Americans are treated with dangerous drugs and chemicals. The reasaon: China, the leading exporter of seafood to the US, is raising most of its fish products in water contaminated with raw sewage and then compensating for this by using dangerous products.
Codfish Nursery Plan Promoted
NEW ENGLAND - Tom Osmers of West Tisbury is leading efforts to bring back cod by using saltwater hatcheries. Cod was once the most valued fish in Vineyard and New England waters, but has been in severe decline for years.
FDA Testing Fewer Seafood Imports
US - As seafood imports rise, the percentage of shipments receiving laboratory test inspections has fallen over the past four years, from a 0.88 percent in 2003 to 0.59 percent in 2006.

PHILIPPINES - The provincial office of the Bureau of Agricultural Statistics (BAS) has reported that six sections under the aquaculture sub-sector of the fishery division have increased volume production in the Davao Region.

Misinformed about Chinese food imports
CHINA - In a letter, "Checking Chinese Exports," Richard Raymond claimed to "correct misinformation" in Harold Meyerson's report about food safety. However, the official food import records of the Commerce Department suggest it is Mr. Raymond who is spreading misinformation.

Marine exports up 12 pc in 2006-07
