VIET NAM - A 5 million USD poverty reduction project that was largely funded by Norway, has benefited seven disadvantaged villages in the coastal district of Trieu Phong, central Quang Tri province.

Bangalore to have country’s first aqua park
BANGALORE — Karnataka government will soon be setting up the country’s first aqua park on the outskirts of Bangalore with the aim of promoting commercial production of ornamental fish, which enjoys a huge market in the country and abroad.
Seafood exports fall more than 13 per cent
INDIA - Seafood exports have registered a 13.47 per cent fall in quantity terms to touch 69,456 tonnes during the April to May period of the current fiscal. The value of exports registered a 9.85 per cent fall to touch Rs 945.08 crore during the same period.

AUSTRALIA - ASEAN countries will complain to the World Trade Organisation (WTO) about an Australian ban on prawn imports that they say constitutes an artificial trade barrier.

Alliance commits $25.9m for aquaculture development
AUSTRALIA - PORT Lincoln aquaculture firm Clean Seas Tuna has teamed up with the Australian Seafood Co-operative Research Centre to help provide $25.9 million over the next seven years for aquaculture development.

Corea project awarded USDA grant
US — Long-simmering plans to convert the former US Navy communications centre in Corea into an aquaculture business park are off the back burner after the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced Thursday that it is awarding a $73,516 grant to the project.

Sea ranching of abalone launched in Nogas Island
PHILIPPINES - More than 5,000 abalone (Haliotis asinia) juveniles were seeded into the Nogas Island Marine Sanctuary on July 24. This is part of an experimental sea-ranching activity jointly undertaken by the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Centre Aquaculture Department (SEAFDEC/AQD) and the Municipal Government of Anini-y, Antique where the sanctuary is located.
Taal Lake towns lose P2.1M in fish kill
TANAUAN CITY — At least 31 metric tons of tilapia were lost to a fish kill in Taal Lake, according to the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources–Inland Fisheries Research Station (BFAR-IFRS).
Investments in sea cages paying off in Mindanao
MANILA - Small farmers and fishermen in Northern Mindanao can potentially earn an additional P100,000 from breeding fish in the region’s first 195-hectare mariculture park, an official said.

UK - One of the fish farming industry's most powerful figures has declared that no salmon farms should be sited within sea lochs into which salmon rivers discharge.

Chilean salmon farmers told to cull ISA infected fish
CHILE - Chile’s National Fishing Service (SERNAPESCA) has instructed salmon farmers to kill fish found to be infected with the lethal Infectious Salmon Anemia (ISA), a highly contagious virus that was recently detected on several fish farms around Chiloé, Region X.
Norway
Employment decline slows in Norwegian fishing industry
NORWAY - According to Fiskeriforskning's preliminary analyses, the decline in employment in the Norwegian fishing industry is on the verge of slowing down, but there is no reason to hope for more jobs.
